The University of Ibadan Research Foundation (UIRF) and Africa Academy for Public Health (AAPH) successfully led this event to mark a significant milestone in the effort of the ARISE Network towards bring impacts on adolescents and youth in Africa. This historic 4 days' event took place in Lagos, Nigeria from 23rd to 26th June 2025.
At the 2025 CAH-SSA, the ARISE Network prepared an in-person Training on Adolescent Health Research. This took place at the CAH-SSA on Tuesday the 23rd of June 2025. In this workshop, facilitators equipped participants to understand unique health needs of adolescents worldwide and in LMICs and explore the impact of social factors and context on adolescent health and well-being. Participants also discuss potential solutions and platforms to address adolescent health needs and empower them to thrive. This workshop is one of the capacity-building activities of the Research Network for Design and Evaluation of Adolescent Health Interventions and Policies in Sub-Saharan Africa (DASH) project. In this instance, more than 110 junior scientists participated in the training.
The conference also featured a vibrant series of poster and oral scientific abstract presentations on a broad range of topics related to adolescent health in sub-Saharan Africa, including Nutrition and non-communicable diseases (NCDs); Mental health, violence, substance use and well-being; Sexual and reproductive health and rights; and Social determinants of health.
Hosted at the University of Ibadan Research Foundation (UIRF) in collaboration with the African Academy of Public Health (AAPH), Tanzania, the Africa Think Tank on Youth and Adolescent Health (ATTAYH) is designed to bridge the knowledge gap and foster innovations for healthy living among young Africans. Special Thematic Working Groups (STWGs) for Nutrition and Physical Activity, Mental Health and Violence, as well as Sexual and Reproductive Health were launched at the 2025 CAH-SSA. The STWGs are the driving engine of the ATTAYH. The STWG Leadership Council was announced and charged to guide the strategic direction of the STWGs, foster inter-country partnerships, and ensure that the network’s research outputs inform both policy and practice across the region through the ATTAYH.
